Personal Librarian for Business, Management & Economics: Home

As a Business, Management & Economics student, you have your own personal librarian to consult with!

This is a pilot project for the Spring 1 and Spring 2 terms of 2017. Please consider using this pilot service so that we can gather data about its usefulness and sustainability! These findings will determine whether it becomes a permanent service.

What Does A Personal Librarian Do?

All librarians are here for you, but your Personal Librarian has additional education and experience in business librarianship, and sets aside time specifically for Business, Management and Economics students so that you can get more focused and in-depth assistance with your academic and information needs. Over the course of your education, we can build a relationship and a foundation for the scholarly work that you will be doing as a college student.

Sarah Morehouse - Your BME Librarian

Any time you contact Ask A Librarian with a question related to Business, Management & Economics, you can ask to be put in touch with Sarah Morehouse, and I will answer your question (unless I'm out of the office for an extended time.)

If you are willing to leave your name and contact information when you use Ask A Librarian, that means we'll be able to keep a conversation going and get to know one another. As you progress through your education, we can get more and more in depth with library and research skills that are tailored to your interests and needs.

Online BME Office Hours

In addition to Ask A Librarian, I am now offering more extensive consultations for students in the BME program.

  • We will be able to share our screens so you can show me what you're doing and I can show you what I'm doing.
  • I'll have had time to prepare to answer your question in depth, and will have set aside time specifically for you.
  • If necessary, I can arrange for a learning coach or peer tutor to work with us.

Basically, this service is for questions that are complicated or take longer.

Office Hours consultations normally take place through Blackboard Collaborate so that we can use video and screen sharing. Please use this link to make sure Blackboard Collaborate works with your device - if not, we can make alternate arrangements.

Set up an appointment

  • I need at least two business days notice to prepare for a consultation (if you don't have time, please use Ask A Librarian.)
  • Regular hours: Wednesdays and Thursdays 2pm to 4pm.
  • If those hours don't work for you, you can always set up an appointment at another time - just suggest alternative times and we'll work something out.

Online office hours use a tool called Blackboard Collaborate.

Your Liaisons

I got my masters in Library Science in 2006 and came to work here at the Empire State College Library in October of that year. I was soon made the Business, Management and Economics liaison, and took additional training through the American Library Association to learn the ins and outs of business librarianship. At home I have four cats, a messy garden, many incomplete craft projects, overflowing bookcases and more books stacked against the walls, and an extremely tolerant partner.
